The background of this canvas is painted with a cracking effect to give an antique look to the painting. The bright beautiful bee hanging on to the bright yellow flowers weighed down by all of the pollen it has collected ready to take back to the hive.
This painting is painted this way to show that these beautiful beings may be a thing of the past. The observer may in fact be looking at the painting in wonderment because bees no longer exist. I chose the antique effect to convey this.
